"Source Control Issues"| Rex Mejia
Part 1: The Problem
While trying to start the project and having to use a new source control came with issues of learning how Perforce works itself into Visual Studio and Unreal Engine. Setting up Perforce took some time to do as I wanted to make sure I was setting it up correctly to avoid issues later down the way but sometimes things are unavoidable. Learning this new source control in a group setting led to some issues with making sure the flow of information is correct and also lead to starting out a bit harder for than usual as I wasn’t initially sure where or how to start contributing safely.
Part 2: The Solution
As with all things the learning process can take a second and it could lead to frustration. Though my group was gaining the understanding of the source control I was still hesitant to start working on the project till I understood how Perforce worked. After working slowly on one file did I start to understand the flow of how Perforce works. The checking in and out of files to make sure only one person has access to avoid conflicts. It was a change as I was not use, I was used to being able to jump from thing to thing as I gained traction on the project. This also leads to more communication, as a group we started to talk more about what files we had and what we were currently working on and this creates a great opportunity to communicate with each other with ideas and brainstorming.
